The new project, called Global Worker Watch, on worker fatalities and catastrophes, according to a post by Kim Krisberg for ScienceBlogs. It was started by Bethany Boggess, an epidemiology student at the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Overall, the goal is to create a comprehensive picture of on-the-job accidents that can be of assistance to employers and government agencies worldwide, Krisberg explained. The maps provide more information than a simple statistic, offering a clearer picture of global trends and potential hazards. It also has the ability to bring the issue of workplace safety to the forefront, prompting changes and safer conditions across many industries.

Taking control of safety will help
In some cases, workplace safety can feel like a mounting problem. For employers tasked with preventing accidents and workers’ compensation insurance claims, it can seem like an uphill battle. However, it is possible to improve conditions by taking control of this aspect.

According to Occupational Health and Safety magazine, safety measures within the business instead of attempting to create completely new ones.
